The 15th DIY & Home Improvement Conference, organized by Karydakis Media, honored Andreas Varsamis, founder of VERNILAC, with the Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his long-standing and substantial contribution to the development of the paints and building materials sector in Greece.

This distinction was awarded as the culmination of a long and successful business journey, during which Mr. Varsamis managed to shape a strong and reliable brand, linking the name of VERNILAC with quality, expertise and continuous evolution. His strategic commitment to innovation, investment in modern production technologies and the continuous upgrading of the company’s products and services have been key pillars of his success.

Born in 1927, Andreas Varsamis began his entrepreneurial journey at a very young age. In 1945, in post-war Athens, he took over the family paint store in the Metaxourgeio area, engaging in the trade of automotive paints and furniture varnishes, leveraging the dynamics of the area, where numerous workshops and polishers operated.

His business development was rapid: in 1960, he founded HELLENIC INDUSTRY OF PAINTS AND VARNISHES VERNILAC S.A., laying the foundations for the subsequent growth of one of the most important Greek industries in varnishes and paints. A few years later, the factory was relocated to Mandra, Attica, marking the company’s transition to an industrial scale. Today, VERNILAC has a strong export activity, with a presence in 30 countries, confirming its international orientation.

At the same time, special reference was made to his long-term commitment to development and investment, even during periods of increased challenges for the Greek market. Through targeted initiatives, Mr. Varsamis contributed decisively not only to the strengthening of VERNILAC but also to the overall upgrading of the sector, setting new standards of quality and competitiveness.

His many years of experience, entrepreneurial vision and ability to adapt to constantly changing market conditions establish him as one of the most emblematic figures in the field.

On a personal level, he is the father of four sons and grandfather of eight grandchildren, leaving a strong family and business legacy for future generations.
